Customising units.

Customising a unit allows you change the door range, handle and handle position for an individual unit. It also allows you to split the door/drawers.

Customising should be used as a last resort. Most changes can be made by picking the correct style, or by making selections under "This Design".

By customising a unit, you are telling ArtiCAD that unit is special. If you make changes under "This Design", customised units will not update.

The Customise dialog.

Edit the unit you wish to customise and click the "Customise" button.

Next and Previous.

Select the next/previous door or drawer.

The currently selected door/drawer is highlighted in yellow. Works from the bottom up i.e. the next door/drawer is the one above the current one, the previous door/drawer is the one below.

Change.

Change the currently selected door/drawer. You can change the manufacturer and range, the handle and the handle position, as well as the type of door/drawer i.e. change a regular door to a glass door. Also allows you to select different Frame Options (see examples below).

NOTE - change the door manufacturer and range only changes the door shape not the door colour. See Changing colours and Multi-range designs for details on changing the colours of a single unit and mixing ranges on a single design.

Split.

Split the currently selected door/drawer. You can specify the number of ways to split, as well as the width of the resulting door/drawers (see examples below).

New Arrangement.

Force the door/drawer to be the full width of the unit (see example below).

NOTE - "Drawer line" and "Three Drawers" are no longer used, and are for backward compatibility.

Examples.

Changing the handle and handle position on a unit.

The above image is of a 400 wide tall larder. The style is set to a 50/50 split. The unit has been customised to place the handles in the correct position for a pull-out larder.

The above image shows the handle positions before customising.

Edit the unit and click "Customise".

The bottom door is selected. Click "Change".

Click "Customise Door".

Click "Handle location" to change the handle position on this door. For this example choose option 3 (top-middle).

Click "OK" once you have chosen your location. This will return you to the "Customise Door" dialog. Click "Handle".

For this example we want to change from a vertical handle to a horizontal handle. Which in this case is option 2.

Click "OK" to return to the "Customise door" dialog. Click "OK" again to return to the "Select a replacement door" dialog. Click "OK" again to return to the "Customise" dialog.

Click "Next" to select the top door.

Click "Change" and follow the steps described above for the bottom door. When choosing the handle location, select bottom-middle instead of top-middle.

Keep clicking "OK" once you have made your changes to add the unit back onto your design.

Changing the door range.

In the above image, the manufacturer and range for the design has been set to "Standard Doors" - "Saponetta Style" (under "This Design" - "Door Type"). The middle unit has been customised to use "Standard Doors" - "Shaker with Inlay".

Edit the unit and click "Customise".

The door is already selected. Click "Change".

Click "Change range".

Select the new range. Keep clicking "OK" to add the unit back onto your design.

See Changing colours and Multi-range designs for details on changing the colours of a single unit and mixing ranges on a single design.

Splitting doors.

The above image shows an 800 wide wall unit that has had the doors adjusted to a 300 and a 500, instead of 2 x 400. ArtiCAD will automatically split the doors once the unit width exceeds the Double Door Threshold. See Appendix 3. Changing defaults for details.

Edit the unit and click "Customise".

Both doors are highlighted. Click "Split".

Even though it shows two doors, we still need to split it. In this case, we want two doors. Click "OK" to return to the "Customise" dialog.

Click "Change".

Specify the width of the first door. The second door will automatically resize to fit.

IMPORTANT - click "Apply" next to the width before clicking "OK".

Keep clicking "OK" to place the unit onto your design.

Frame options.

Normally, the colour of the dresser door would be the same as the base unit doors - they all use the colour "laminate1". In the above example, the dresser door is using the colour "laminte2".

While you could edit each unit in turn and adjust the colours, by using the frame option described below you can change the colour for all the customised units from "This Design" - "Photo Realism Colours".

Edit the unit and click "Customise".

Click "Change".

Click "Frame...".

By selecting frame option 2, this door will use the colour "laminate2" instead of "laminate1".

Keep clicking "OK" to add the unit onto your design.

NOTE - not all doors have a second frame option.

See Changing colours and Multi-range designs for details on changing the colours of a single unit and mixing ranges on a single design.

Full-width door.

The above image shows two 700 wide base units. The unit on the right has been customised so it has a single door the entire width of the unit. ArtiCAD will automatically split the doors once the unit width exceeds the Double Door Threshold. See Appendix 3. Changing defaults for details.

Edit the unit and click "Customise".

Click "New Arrangement".

Select "Full Width door". Keep clicking "OK" to place the unit onto your design.
